Malevolence fans will know that their records come few and far between. Emerging onto the scene in 2013 with their debut album Reign of Suffering, they quickly developed a reputation as one of the most ferocious that UK heavy music had to offer, earning them a cult-like following of die hard fans.
2017’s Self Supremacy saw their status catapult from kings of the underground to national representatives of UK metal and hardcore, selling out club shows from mainland Europe to the USA and even south-east Asia and Japan.
Early 2020 will see the release of their latest offering, The Other Side. With just 3 tracks Malevolence have made no effort to water down their unique brand of hardcore inspired metal, taking influence from a wide range of subgenres Malevolence skilfully balance the riffing of Lamb of God with Crowbar-esque vocal melodies fronted with the aggression of Hatebreed. The Other Side comes with the diversity that modern metal is missing. Heart wrenching ballads are followed by technical shredding & crushing breakdowns that effortlessly showcase the bands talent as genuine songwriters.
Regardless of Malevolence’s underground success they remain firmly independent, handling as much of their operation in-house as they possibly can. From managing themselves to running their own merchandise store and record label, Malevolence wear their independence as a badge of honour. The Other Side is due to be released on the bands own MLVLTD Music, a platform already actively promoting records from their peers and affiliates.
Despite the bands DIY status they have made no attempt to cut corners with the way the record looks and sounds. With audio production handled by Carl Bown (Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine) and stunning artwork from Eliran Kantor (Hatebreed, Crowbar, SoulFly) Malevolence have curated a team of the finest talent in metal to ensure that the quality of the project is comparable with the greats.
Right before their Australian debut tour of January 2020 with hardcore legends Terror, December 2019 saw Malevolence tour the UK and Europe as the main support act for Knocked Loose. With the entire UK leg sold out months in advance and many venues forced to upgrade to meet demand for tickets; the tour proved to be a celebration of the strength of modern metalcore.
