Led by that charismatic crooner of an international sports enthusiast John Sharkey III (Clockcleaner, Puerto Rico Flowers) and backed by Andrew Nelson (Ceremony, Paint It Black) and Mike Sneeringer (formerly of Purling Hiss), the Philadelphian super group Dark Blue serves up two fistfuls of velvet-lined vitriol for the terrace chanting masses on their debut single for the Jade Tree label. The A-side, "Just Another Night With The Boys," - an ode to an evening of soccer hooliganism - sonically harkens back to a time in the early '80s when UK boot boy bands such as Blitz and Angelic Upstarts shied away from their rough 'n' tumble comfort zone to cover Joy Division and Bowie tunes. The flip is a somewhat faithful rendering of "Hungry For Love," the opener from John Cale's confounding and obscure-as-hell 1984 "beach pop"-album "Caribbean Sunset." These two tracks, recorded by noted Philadelphian producer Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, The War on Drugs, Purling Hiss), are here to whet your appetite for the forthcoming Jade Tree full-length. 7" includes digital download.
