Having been out-of-print for a couple of decades, the Cosmic Psychos have dug up some old masters, given them a spit and polish, and have released this absolute classic on coloured vinyl.
It's a mighty fine time to requaint yourself with some of the ‘Psychos’ finest work to date. Featuring the original line-up of Ross Knight, Robbie Watts and Bill Walsh, ‘Self-Totalled‘ lays the foundations for many of today’s young pub rock upstarts, and even the grunge scene, globally.
Butch Vig (producer of Nirvana’s Nevermind) agrees, “I think the Cosmic Psychos were a band that was highly influential on the Seattle so called grunge scene. I know that Kurt and Nirvana were fans, they played shows with Pearl Jam. Even though the Cosmic Psychos never had the commercial impact or success that those bands had, they were still a major influence on them, and I think a lot of it had to do with the spirit and the sound of their music.
'Self Totalled' followed shortly after 'Blokes You Can Trust' and was recorded at Birdland in St Kilda with Lindsay Gravina. It’s a far more Melbourne-centric release, featuring The Man Who Drank Too Much, Thank Your Mother For The Rabbits and the relatively risqué Whip Me.
